Hidden Gems from Turkish & Islamic Arts Museum Collection

While in Istanbul last summer while attending the International Conference on Oriental Carpets (ICOC) Paige had the opportunity to visit the “Hidden Gems” exhibit at the Turkish & Islamic Arts Museum. This exhibit of  never before seen 13th-17th century carpet fragments kicked off the conference. Each piece offers a deeper understanding of its cultural era & inspires modern day collections. Today only 23 carpets remain from the Anatolian Seljuk Period (13th Century). Eight of these were discovered in the Konya Alaeddin Mosque and are part of the display at the museum in Istanbul.
