CulturalXCollab
Last month Lucy Upward, editor of Cover Magazine reached out to PAO to participate in “CulturalxCollabs- Weaving the Future.” We anxiously awaited the package that originated from Berlin’s Pergamon Museum. In 2022 a doppelgänger of a 400 year old Caucasian dragon carpet was hand woven in India by Jurgen Dahlmanns of Rug Star. The carpet is now cut into 100 different fragments for people to exchange over the course of three years during the Islamic wing’s renovation. The purpose behind this project is to inspire people to share ideas and stories of cultural collaborations making social connections tangible. The stories will be shared online illustrating how cultural influences and people from all over the world shape the things we love, have loved in the past and will love in the future. Each fragment tells a story and serves as an ambassador for cultural exchange.
Paige is now the second owner of fragment #14. We are excited to follow the journeys of each individual fragment which now spans 50 cities and 25 countries. The fragments will return to the Pergamon Museum in 2027. They will be displayed next to the original Caucasian carpet.
