Ishkar- Afghan Artist 2024

Garden of Paradise

French Artist, Louis Barthélemy, unveils a capsule collaboration of three rugs with ISHKAR. Inspired by 14th century gardens, the three rug designs depict landscapes, ponds and pavilions in hues of mauve, tangerine and pinks. Framed by a graphic border the lush vegetation is a nod to the Babur gardens in Kabul. Each rug is handmade to order by female weavers in Afghanistan. A collaboration with a well-known artist like Louis enables cross cultural dialogues and brings these Afghan artisans work to a wider audience.

“Like a beautiful escape in a heartwarming imaginary, these rugs represent a collective dream of an ancient paradise.”

Each of these carpets are hand-knotted, taking a team of two weavers approximately four months to complete.
